This year we have made the difficult decision to close our adult NHS waiting list, as of 1st April 2025. We did not take this decision lightly, and we hope this month’s blog will help our community understand the reasons why we have taken this step. We will also set out how we are able to provide affordable dental care to adult patients in a more sustainable way.

Why did we close our adult NHS waiting list?

543 Dental & Implant Centre is proud to provide NHS dentistry to thousands of patients, but we have long been at full NHS capacity. Our waiting list became so long that those at the end of the list would need to wait approximately three and a half years before they would have been seen for a dental appointment.

This situation is unsustainable. It also means that we have been unable to provide the dental care that we as dental professionals want to give to all those who have sought to join our practice.

Our advice is that patients should attend regular routine dental check-ups and hygiene appointments – and going without seeing a dentist for any prolonged period can have negative consequences on your dental health. Check-ups and hygiene appointments are essential in making sure that common issues like tooth decay and gum disease are caught early and aren’t left to develop into more costly, painful problems.

We thank all our patients for their patience and understanding as we’ve navigated the high demand for services at 543, and we assure everyone that this is not the end of our practice’s commitment to the NHS, nor our goal to make dental care as accessible to all as possible.

543 Dencare, our in-house dental plan, allows our practice to continue to provide the preventive care we’re passionate about for an affordable and manageable monthly fee of £18.82 per month.

543 Dencare is a pay-monthly dental plan that covers all your routine dental care essentials provided by our highly experienced team at 543 Dental & Implant Centre in Hull. 

What’s included?

For £18.82 per month, you’ll receive:

  • 2 check-ups per year, including necessary x-rays.
  • 2 hygiene appointments per year.
  • Priority access to appointments.
  • 24-hour guarantees on emergency dental appointments.
  • 10% off extractions, fillings, root canals, crowns, bridges, dentures and tooth whitening (treatment referrals outside the practice are not included).
  • 10% off dental sundries bought at the practice.
  • Access to the Worldwide Emergency Assistance scheme.

543 Dencare members have a guaranteed place at the practice and will receive priority access to appointments. This means patients don’t have to wait a long time or risk their dental issues worsening before being seen by a dental professional.

Our dental plan is designed to make private dental care as affordable as possible. We provide an alternative to larger one-off fees for routine check-ups and hygiene appointments, allowing members to spread the cost of routine dental care over the course of the year.

We offer our 543 Dencare members a whole range of benefits beyond the convenience of our pay-monthly plan. This includes 10% off treatments such as fillings and crowns, whitening and cosmetic bonding performed at the practice.

Peace of mind – prevention made easy
543 Dencare is the most convenient and cost-effective way to keep up with your preventive dental care, as routine check-ups, x-rays, hygiene and oral cancer screenings are all included in your dental plan. Staying up to date with preventive care gives peace of mind that dental issues aren’t developing into more significant problems.

Furthermore, if dental pain does strike, 543 Dencare gives you peace of mind that you’ll receive an emergency appointment within 24 hours, and you have access to the Worldwide Dental Emergency Assistance scheme when abroad.

Care for the whole family for less
Taking care of the whole family’s dental care is made easier with 10% off each monthly fee for every extra family member that joins the plan. Please also bear in mind that 543 intends to continue their provision of free dental care for children under the NHS. Therefore, we will still consider treating children aged 0-17 years on the NHS if a parent is a 543 Dencare member, or willing to become one.
