For some, even the words ‘tooth extraction’ are enough to make them feel uncomfortable. For a lot of patients, the fear lies in the unknown: how long will the treatment take and will it hurt?
Here at 543 Dental Centre, we understand the concern. That’s why we’ve created the ultimate guidelines to tooth extractions, featuring everything you need to know to feel more confident about your treatment!
“Why Do I Need My Tooth Removed?”
Whenever possible, your Hull dentist will always try to save your natural tooth before recommending tooth extraction. But sometimes, removing the troublesome tooth might be the healthiest option for your smile.
You might need a tooth extraction if you have:
- Severe tooth decay that can’t be restored
- Advanced gum disease
- A badly broken or damaged tooth
- An impacted tooth
- Before orthodontic treatment if you have crowding
“Will My Tooth Extraction Hurt?”
This is one of the most common questions we receive from patients. Rest assured, we will numb the area surrounding the tooth with a local anaesthetic, so you won’t feel any pain during the procedure. You might feel some pressure as we gently remove the tooth but you should feel quite comfortable during the extraction.
Afterwards you might experience some discomfort as the area heals but this can usually be managed with over-the-counter painkillers where suitable.
“I’m Too Nervous To Have My Tooth Removed!”
If dental anxiety has stopped you from getting the treatment you need, please don’t feel like you’re alone. For this reason, we offer our more nervous patients conscious sedation. This option doesn’t put you to sleep but rather helps you feel deeply relaxed throughout your appointment. You’ll be able to respond to your dentist as needed but might not remember much of the procedure afterwards.
Let our team know if you’re very anxious about your extraction procedure and we will talk you through your options regarding sedation!
Gentle Tooth Extractions in Hull
“I had an appointment for a root canal/crown, but unfortunately to my horror the tooth had cracked and had to be removed! Henry put me at ease throughout reassuring me I wouldn’t feel a thing, it was removed in no time & I didn’t feel a thing. He took time to explain the procedure and was so patient—excellent as was the dental nurse. Amazing.”
”I was referred to 543 to have a wisdom tooth removed under sedation as I struggle with severe anxiety. Everyone was extremely helpful and made me feel at ease. James removed the tooth with no problems and staff was again friendly and caring afterwards. Only the day after having it done my mouth feels like its almost healed and in no pain at all. Thank you for a positive experience at the dentist. We’re now looking at becoming private patients with you.”
